This weekend when I was planning our meals I decided I wanted to do something different for June. I have been reading a lot about freezer cooking, so I thought I would give it a shot. Because of Memorial Day, there were also some really good prices on ground beef at Kroger, so this also motivated me. I decided to stick with just cooking the meat portion of a meal, freezing it, and then being able to just heat it up before adding the other ingredients later.
Today I cooked up 3 pounds of ground beef, 1 pound of sausage, and 3 chicken breasts. The ground beef will be used for italian sheperd’s pie on Wednesday, and beef stroganoff and sloppy joes another week. The sausage will be for easy ragu, and mini-pizzas. I was planning on making the pizzas today, but I decided to make them tomorrow instead. Lastly, I’ll be using the chicken for tacos tonight, and the other chicken will be for chicken alfredo. It took me about 3 hours to do all the cooking, cleaning, and storing of the items. That sounds like a lot, but it’s totally worth it. That will save me time later when I make the meal, and I was able to make 7 meals’ worth of meat! Not bad if I do say so myself. I am hoping that I can do some more freezer cooking in the next few weeks, but I think I’ll see how all of the stuff from today turns out first.
