Recently I have been reading a great book by Robyn O’Brien called The Unhealthy Truth: How Our Food is Making Us Sick- and What We Can Do About It. This is a great book for anyone, especially those that want more information about the food industry and ingredients in our food. The book focuses mostly on food allergies, because Robyn started doing her research when her youngest daughter developed an egg allergy. This doesn’t mean you have to have food allergies to enjoy the book. Even though she started her research because of allergies the information applies to everyone. I would especially recommend it to anyone with young children, because a lot of her information reveals how ingredients affect children. She also reveals a lot about how government figures and scientists have been covering up a lot of information about the harmful effects of certain food ingredients. The best part of the book, in my opinion, is the information about food studies that were done in other countries. It is amazing to see how other countries have banned certain ingredients, yet we continue to consume these ingredients in America. Although there is a lot of research in the book, it is very easy to read and understand. It has been hard for me to stop reading. I have been learning a lot about the food industry and harmful ingredients in the past year and a half, but this book really made me want to make drastic changes in my eating habits. You will not look at your favorite foods the same again. So, if you’re looking for a great read I highly recommend this book.
